Overview

Through the Back to Basics Reading Plan, New York is advancing evidence-based literacy instruction, high-quality instructional materials, educator preparation, and stronger family-school partnerships. As districts work to implement these priorities and improve reading outcomes, they need solutions that improve student outcomes while complementing existing district initiatives. Springboard Collaborative helps districts improve student outcomes through evidence-based intervention, family engagement, and educator support that complement New York's priorities. We've partnered with New York schools and districts since 2017, helping students, educators, and families achieve measurable reading gains.

Aligned to State Priorities

  • Back to Basics Reading Plan requires literacy instruction with Science of Reading research and educator preparation initiatives

    We support these efforts through structured literacy tutoring, family engagement, and job-embedded coaching that reinforce evidence-based reading practices.

  • Identify struggling readers early and provide targeted support through diagnostic screening and intervention

    We help districts accelerate learning through literacy screening, targeted interventions, and family-centered progress monitoring.

  • Provide accessible communication and support for multilingual learner (MLL) families

    We offer Student Action Plans and family workshops in languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese helping strengthen home-school partnerships and literacy outcomes. (additional languages available upon customization)

  • Recognition of the importance of meaningful family engagement in student success

    Our Family-Educator Learning Accelerator (FELA) model equips families with practical tools, workshops, and ongoing support that extend literacy learning beyond the classroom.

  • LEAPS (Learning and Enrichment After-School Program Supports)

    Funds afterschool, summer learning, tutoring, academic enrichment, and extended learning opportunities.

  • 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC)

    Supports afterschool, summer learning, family literacy, and academic enrichment programs.

  • School Improvement Funding and SIG Coaching for Excellence

    Funds evidence-based intervention, educator coaching, tutoring, and school improvement initiatives designed to accelerate student achievement.

  • Title I Parent and Family Engagement Set-Aside

    Supports family literacy, parent education, family engagement programs, and activities that strengthen home-school partnerships.

  • Back to Basics and NYC Reads

    Supports science-of-reading aligned instruction, educator development, literacy improvement efforts, and implementation of evidence-based reading practices.

  • Federal Funding

    Federal funding sources, including Title I, II, III, IV, IDEA, and 21st Century Community Learning Centers, may support evidence-based intervention, educator development, multilingual learner services, family engagement, and expanded learning opportunities.
