In-School Literacy

Custom Tutoring for Students that Includes Meaningful Family Involvement

Let’s make it simple: our in-school tutoring program by Future Forward focuses on learning that meets students where they are and brings families into the conversation. We empower students to grow as readers while also building their confidence and having fun along the way.

Bring a Tailored Approach to Your Literacy Tutoring

Our in-school tutoring builds on Springboard’s other offerings of after-school and summer literacy to provide additional reading solutions that meet the needs of all schools and districts.

Like our other programs, in-school tutoring brings schools and families together to build a support team for students. Students form relationships with professional tutors either one-on-one or in small group sessions. Their lessons are customized to fit the needs of each student and how they learn.

We always intentionally bring families in to be a part of their children’s learning. Through our in-school program, tutors will regularly reach out to families and schools will host monthly events. Through regular touchpoints, families can know and support goals set for their own children and cheer them on.

Our programs regularly measure success. Students enrolled in Future Forward are 6x more likely to reach grade-level reading benchmarks. With the highest possible rating from the Department of Education’s Institute Sciences, Future Forward was also named a 2025 NSSA Tutoring Design Winner.

How Does the In-School Tutoring Program Work?

It’s built on a two-part model that includes both learning at school and family engagement. Both pieces play a role, and when they work together, accelerate reading growth.

Part One: In-school tutoring provides students with custom lessons

1

90 minutes of weekly tutoring

2

One-on-one or small group learning

3

Structured lessons customized to students’ specific needs

Part Two: Family engagement builds on student learning and offers extra support

1

Regular outreach and engagement and two home visits per school year

2

Monthly family to build skills and support from home

3

Individual strategies for each student to improve and grow

4

Building relationships and trust between schools, teachers, and families

How Our In-School Literacy Program Partners with Schools

This tutoring program does not cause extra work for teachers and is designed to fit seamlessly into the school day to cause minimal interruption.

Our program provides:

  • Professional, trained tutors to work with students
  • Individually customized lesson plans for each student
  • Built-in planning and review time for tutors in addition to sessions with students
  • Monthly events for families to build relationships and literacy knowledge
  • Regular outreach and reading resources for families

Our program also provides lasting effects on reading! A five-year longitudinal follow-up study found that students in our program were 6 months ahead of their peers.

NSSA Badge for Tutoring Program Design

Future Forward is proud to announce we have been awarded the prestigious Tutoring Design Program Badge from Stanford University’s National Student Support Accelerator (NSSA). To receive a Badge, our program was evaluated by a third-party team of education leaders to assess its alignment to rigorous Tutoring Quality Standards. The design of Future Forward’s tutoring and family engagement program was shown to excel in Instruction, Learning Integration, and Cohesion.
